Flying a Gooney Bird in Canada’s North shares stories of Dorrin Wallace’s adventures as a bush pilot, chief pilot, and aircraft maintenance engineer in northern Saskatchewan, Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon during an era when aviation regulations were lax or nonexistent.

Dorrin spent 40 years in Canada’s aviation industry, flying single-engine planes on floats, skis, or wheels, and the giant twin-engine DC-3, affectionately known as the “Gooney Bird.”

He took many calculated risks and often pushed aircraft past its limits while serving isolated communities and living his aviation dreams.

Dorrin rarely got lost and was never fined, but that might be because he didn’t get caught!

Enjoy these insights into remote northern communities, fishing camps, trading outposts, and the unique individuals who inhabit them.

Author, editor, book publisher, and retired journalist Deana J. Driver co-authored the book, adding to Dorrin’s engaging first-person anecdotes.
