Essential information to help teachers prepare for their visit.
Pre-Visit Information and Expectations
- The Museum Manners are rules intended to keep students and our artifacts safe and ensure a good experience for all visitors.
- Students’ understanding of key concepts before the museum tour enhances their experience.
- The SAM staff and volunteers are not responsible for student behavior.
- Review the Museum’s Policies before your visit.
Reservations / Bookings
- Booking requests can be made on the Teacher’s Area of our website.
- Bookings are on a first-come, first-served basis, so book early.
- Upon receiving your booking request, contact will be made by telephone if necessary and a confirmation notice by email.
Before You Arrive
- Ensure proper student supervision with a ratio of one supervisor per ten students.
- The education tours can accommodate 35 students per tour.
- A lunch break is scheduled during a four-hour tour.
- Payment of services is payable at the end of the program day by preferred credit card or debit card.
Arriving at the Museum
- Arrive 15 minutes before the start of the program for class organization and orientation.
- The end time for the full-day program is 2:30 pm and the half-day program is 12:00 pm.
- Afternoon half-day tours run from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 pm.
- Students will have an opportunity to visit the gift shop at the end of the program.
Grade 6 Program Description
Our Grade 6 program aligns with the science curriculum unit on flight, offering half-day and full-day options.

Half-Day Program
9:30am - 12:00pm or 12:30pm - 3:00pm
Sessions: Flight theory, simulation flight, aircraft tour
Half-Day Tours
- 9:15 – 9:25 / 12:15 – 12:25: Arrive
- 9:30 – 9:40 / 12:30 – 12:40: Introduction and safety topics
- 9:45 – 10:25 / 12:50 – 1:30: Theory of Flight, Bernoulli’s Principle
- 10:30 – 11:05 / 1:35 – 2:10: Tour Aircraft and Other Artifacts
- 11:10 – 11:50 / 2:15 – 2:55: Flight simulators
- 11:55 – 12:00 / 3:00 – 3:05: Depart

Full-Day Program
9:30am - 2:30pm
Sessions: Includes additional sessions on aircraft restoration and aviation communication.
Full-Day Tour

Museum Manners
Our rules are intended to keep students and our artifacts safe and ensure a good experience for all visitors. Please ensure your chaperones and students are aware of our Museum Manners
- Walk, don’t run.
- Do not touch.
- Do not climb on Museum artifacts.
- Talk quietly.
- No food, drink or gum.
- Students must be with an adult at all times.
- Be on time.
- Shopping in the Museum gift shop is not a scheduled part of a school visit.
- Respect the Museum and the people around you.
