MUSEUM’s COLLECTION

Thank you for your interest in the Saskatchewan Aviation Museum. The Museum’s collection is made up largely of artifacts donated by the public. We appreciate your desire to become involved in preserving the history of Saskatchewan and Canadian Aviation.

Our success as a museum is from the many donated artifacts in recent years to the Saskatchewan Aviation Museum Collections Management. However, this success has presented the museum with the challenge of having more donated items and artifacts than can be displayed.

The Museum is currently at capacity having limited space to display and the resources to store items donated. We are in the process of sorting and reorganizing the collection. We must now take time to sort and redistribute items to make changes and add to our display cabinets.

“Museum Is Currently Not Accepting Donations of the following Property”.

Because of space and resource limitations, the museum is pausing accepting new donations.

Museum is not accepting until further notice:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT DOES THE SASKATCHEWAN AVIATION MUSEUM COLLECT?

The Museum collects historical aviation artifacts and related materials that depict and played a role in the growth and prosperity of our province and country significant to Saskatchewan and Canadian Aviation history.

  1. The object is not a duplicate to existing items and is consistent with the Museum’s goals.
  2. It is appropriate for exhibition purposes and useful as an educational tool within an exhibit.
  3. The object was associated with a notable, historical event related to Saskatchewan Aviation History and/or depicts such an event.
  4. The object has significant intrinsic value because it is the best of its type or one of a kind.

Unfortunately, “No”. We cannot accept any objects that are dropped off at the museum. All potential acquisitions go through a verification process to see if it fits with our collection. Temporarily storing objects creates issues as we have limited space and there are issues regarding ownership and insurance coverage. Your submitting photographs of the objects usually provide enough information so that we don’t need to store them here while awaiting a decision. Please complete the “Donation Inquiry Form” – Property in Kind online form for artifact and provide photographs of your considered donation.

The Saskatchewan Aviation Historical Society Inc. is a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency and is authorized to issues receipts for income tax purposes. Artifacts worth $1,000 or more are required to be appraised by a qualified appraiser. High-value artifacts may require multiple appraisals. The cost of appraisals is the responsibility of the donor.

We are not able to guarantee if or when we will exhibit artifacts. Part of the museum’s role is preserving artifacts for future generations.

Unfortunately, “No”. The Museum cannot return accessioned materials to the donor. When the deed of gift (Donation of Property Agreement) is signed, ownership of the materials is legally transferred to the Museum.

Unfortunately, “No”. We do not permanently affix signs or plaques to objects because it is distracting to visitors who are viewing them on exhibit. The museum staff will record your relative’s connection to the artifact in its file so that the information is retained. If the artifact goes on exhibit, your relative’s name may be included in an artifact label if that story is relevant to the exhibit.
