Attendance and Punctuality

SAM requests volunteers and staff be reliable and punctual in reporting for scheduled activities. While SAM will attempt to be flexible in all cases, staff and volunteers are expected to notify the ED, or representative, if they will be absent or late, so arrangements can be made for handling their responsibilities.

Anti-Harassment

Harassment is any inappropriate conduct, comment, display, action or gesture by a person that constitutes a threat to the health or safety of the worker may rise to the level of harassment and is therefore prohibited. Please refer to the SAM Anti-Harassment Policy.

Compliance

Staff and volunteers will be required to complete a criminal background check and vulnerable sector check for certain volunteer role. Failure to complete these requirements may disqualify a volunteer from serving in a particular role. If appropriate based on the circumstances, volunteers who are disqualified for a volunteer role may have the option to explore other volunteer opportunities.

Volunteers are required to keep track of their volunteer hours by completing the volunteer sheet at the front desk.

Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco use

Business-related activities must be conducted free from the influence of alcohol and illegal drugs. In addition, these substances may not be possessed or distributed on SAM premises. During business functions, volunteers and employees are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner.

Use of tobacco or e-cigarettes or marijuana on SAM premises at any time or function is prohibited.

A staff/volunteer cannot report to the workplace impaired, nor should a staff/volunteer smell of marijuana per the expectation for scents and hygiene in the workplace.

The workplace consists of all property of SAM, including grounds, buildings, vehicles, and any other equipment, and any site where a staff/volunteer performs work.

Good Stewardship

Serving in a staff or volunteer position requires good judgment and management of reasonable risks. All staff and volunteers will be given a general company orientation and a specific training to understand and manage the risks in carrying out their specific jobs. Staff and volunteers will be required to comply with company policy and to conduct SAM business at the direction of SAM and within the scope of their duties as a staff member volunteer.

SAM indemnifies its staff and volunteers against liability incurred while performing their duties conducted at the request of SAM.

Term of disqualification and/or removal

SAM is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for both staff and volunteers. Volunteers who do not comply with the Mutual Code of Conduct may be subject to disciplinary action, including and up to disqualification and/or removal.
