Teachers Guide: Read Me First

Flight Theory Program

  • Since the Saskatchewan Aviation Museum (SAM) opened in May 2018, the museum’s Flight Theory Program has been well received by educators. In the first year of operation, over 1200 students from 42 schools participated in the flight theory program.
  •  The Flight Theory Program gives students the opportunity to see a wide variety of aircraft while learning about aerodynamics from experienced instructors.
  • Together with demonstrations, interactive exercises, guided museum tours and flight simulators, the museum programs are designed to engage and inspire students of all age.

Pre-Visit Information and Expectation

  • The Museum Manners (Code of Conduct) are rules intended to keep students and our artifacts safe and ensure a good experience for all visitors. Ensure your chaperones and students are aware of and ready to follow them.
  • Students’ understanding of the key concepts prior to museum tour only enhances their experience.
  • For a breakdown of concepts covered by the course, refer to Programs Section in this guide.
  • The SAM staff and volunteers are not responsible for behavior of students. Teachers and supervisors are responsible for proper student decorum. If required, the Program Coordinator will address any disruptive and unacceptable behavior.
  • Review the Museum’s Policies before your visit.

Reservations / Bookings

  • Booking request queries can be made on the Teacher’s Area of our website.
  • Bookings are made on a first-come, first-served basis, so we do recommend you book early.

  • Upon the museum receiving your booking request, contact will be made by telephone if necessary and a confirmation notice by email.

Before You Arrive

  • During school visits, adult teachers and chaperones attending are expected to provide supervision for students.
  • A ratio of one (1) supervisor per ten (10) students is required.
  • If the required ratio is not met, at the discretion of programming staff alternate arrangements may need to be addressed prior to proceeding with the program.
  • The education tours can accommodate 35 students per tour.
  • A lunch break is scheduled in a four-hour tour. The museum does not have refrigerators or microwaves available to the public, so bag lunches that don’t require heating or cooling are preferred.
  • A final student count of your tour is required and the program price will be adjusted accordingly.
  • Payment of services is payable at the end of program day by preferred credit card or debit card.
  • Invoicing is not available.
