half-day & full-day programs

Theory of Flight

The Theory of Flight Program gives students the opportunity to see a wide variety of aircraft while learning about aerodynamics from experienced instructors. Together with demonstrations, interactive exercises, guided museum tours and flight simulators, the museum programs are designed to engage and inspire students of all ages.

The science and characteristics of objects and materials are demonstrated in a fun and interactive experience. Students learn to identify the materials and components that make up an aircraft, tour the historical hangar, and discover the practical application of math and science concepts. Students experience aircraft flight simulators, which gives them a true hands-on experience of flight controls.

Organize a visit: how to prepare

The SAMLC education tours can accommodate 33 students in a two-hour program and 55 students in a four-hour program.

A lunch break is scheduled for a four-hour tour. The museum does not have refrigerators or microwaves available to the public, so bag lunches that don’t require heating or cooling are preferred.

Payment is due upon a final student head-count invoice at the end of program day. Payment is accepted by preferred credit card.

Book Your Visit

School bookings are accepted September 1 – June 30. A minimum of two weeks notice is required to accommodate your booking.

Registration is made on a first-come, first-served basis, so we do recommend you book early. Once the museum receives your request to book a date, the SAMLC staff will make contact with a confirmation notice.

The museum requires a minimum of 10 students per school tour. Where this minimum cannot be met, please indicate on your Booking Request in the notes section.

Please submit a separate program request for each field trip.

The new entrance to the museum will be via the gate at the north side of the building. Signage with contact and entrance instructions is displayed. Please check back here for updates on our progress as we reorganize the museum. As always, contact us with any questions or to schedule a visit or a flight.
